LAPEER- The state’s organization of attorneys interested in cannabis law has just released their first publication.

The Marijuana Law Section of the State Bar Association of Michigan has over 500 members, according to former Chair, Bernard Jocuns of Lapeer. The ‘Marijuana Law Section Journal’ is their new print media tool. The first edition is 29 pages long, is colorful- and is good reading.

Volume 1 has a print date of Feb. 1, 2017. It includes a letter from Jocuns. He describes the Section’s role as “preparing for Michigan’s future and rule regarding marijuana and the law,” but adds three additional “important factors: comradery, encouragement and being proactive.”

The first edition also features articles from well-known criminal defense attorneys, including Michael Komorn; Barton Morris; David Rudoi; Paula Givens; Doug Mains; Troy Daniels; and the duo of Matthew Abel and Thomas Lavigne, from Detroit’s Cannabis Counsel.

Articles cover a wide variety of topics both legal and otherwise, including several historical pieces, an evaluation of the State Police Crime Lab Scandal, a look at hemp, and driving while under the influence of cannabis.

The Journal’s Editor is Matthew Roman, from Barton Morris’ firm, Cannabis Legal Group. The current Chair of the Marijuana Law Section of the Michigan State Bar is Daniel Grow; Mary Chartier-Mittendorf is the Chair Elect; the Commissioner Liaison is Jennifer Greico, and Robert Hendricks is the Secretary-Treasurer.
