Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan University were included in the new Leafly guide, “120 of the best college courses, degrees, and certifications for cannabis”.
“Michigan’s very own Lake Superior State University is home to two trailblazing undergraduate degrees,” writes Nadir Pearson. The undergraduate degrees are in cannabis business and chemistry.
Northern Michigan University blazed trails, too. In 2017 they launched “the country’s first four-year undergraduate program specifically dedicated to cannabis,” per the article. That program is still going strong; undergraduate students attending the Upper Peninsula school can elect the Medicinal Plant Chemistry course of study.
Although NMU’s cannabis program was revolutionary five years ago, colleges all across America are offering courses of study or certification on various aspects of cannabis cultivation, business or law. The ‘120 Best…’ list included schools in Mississippi, Maine, California, Colorado, Ohio, Rhode Island, Illinois, New York, Nebraska, North Dakota, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Vermont, Tennessee, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Florida, Missouri, Kentucky
The article also praises overseas university-level programs, including those in the U.K. and Canada. Many of the programs described in the Leafly write-up are online only certification courses, which make these certifications and educational opportunities available to everyone.
