WASHINGTON, D.C.- NORML’s annual Lobby Day activities were attended by a very special VIP guest- Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist Tom Morello.
The NORML Conference and Congressional Lobby Day brings National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws members from across the United States into the nation’s capital to discuss strategy, receive training and meet with lawmakers. Activists attended more than 170 meetings with legislators and their representatives, according to the September 16 notice ‘Report Back from DC’ issued by the national organization.
Advocates gathered in session on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, September 8, 9 and 10. Morello arrived during the Monday session and “delighted the audience with an impromptu performance.”
Although Morello famously stated in an April 20, 2018 tweet: “…I’ve never smoked myself…” he has been an advocate for reforming marijuana laws.
“An important step to reforming criminal justice and restoring people’s lives is legalizing marijuana,” Morello tweeted in May 2019, as reported by Alternative Nation.
The NORML Lobby Day attendees also heard from Representative Earl Blumenauer and Sen. Ron Wyden. “We are simply blown away by the passion, leadership, and knowledge attendees and speakers brought to DC,” the report states.
2019’s Lobby Day was a record-setting event. “Because of NORML’s strong grassroots support, we were able to send more people than ever to Capitol Hill this year. And, we won’t stop until marijuana is legal across this great nation,” per the September 16 notice.
NORML’s website, norml.org, is a treasure trove of information and action items tailored to meet the needs of cannabis advocates and interested parties. Read more about the Lobby Day and other activities by visiting the site.
