ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN: Beloved High Times Magazine Senior Cultivation Editor Danny Danko revealed he has now been professionally separated from the publication as a result of the corona virus crisis.
The statement came in an off-the-cuff manner during the first-ever Digital Hash Bash broadcast on April 4. Restrictions surrounding the corona virus crisis had forced the postponement of any physical gathering of cannabis advocates, but event organizers turned the problem into a solution by broadcasting five hours of cannabis interviews, discussions and reminiscences.
Danko, introduced as the “guru of cool,” has been a fixture in the cannabis industry for years. His position at High Times has afforded him the opportunity to travel and speak at high-profile events across the world.
The magazine has suffered during the corona virus crisis just like other industries have. “They have laid off some staff, myself included, for the time being,” he remarked. “I hope I’ll be back over there when the crisis is over, but in the meantime I’m selling my book and doing the podcast.”
When asked about the future of the Cannabis Cup franchise, Danko replied that the magazine was working on “digital Cup sort of things in the near future,” and April 20 may see “a digital smoke out session of some kind.”
After having attended a “handful of Hash Bashes” in the past, Danko said he was pleased to join the crew for the 49th year broadcast. “Next year is the 50th,” he said. “I hope we can all be out there on the Diag for that pivotal moment… I can’t wait to be back for the 50th anniversary next year.”
This year’s online version of Michigan’s annual cannabis celebration received Danko’s approval. “I love this digital aspect” of the Hash Bash, he grinned. “Michigan and Ann Arbor has had this amazing history of cannabis law reform… it’s truly an honor to celebrate that with you guys.”
Danko said he is “relaunching” his successful Free Weed from Danny Danko podcast “later this month.” The podcast began in 2011 and logged 103 episodes, but has been on hiatus. Danko describes the podcast as a “free way to learn how to grow your own cannabis and get your own free weed.”
Danko was interviewed by Jamie Lowell and Rick Thompson on the Digital Hash Bash broadcast. The recording can be viewed on Planet Green Trees TV HERE, and includes hosts Michael Komorn, Debra Young and Amanda Joslin.
Danko’s entire segment was uplifting and positive, as was his final message. “All things will pass. This is gonna pass… Look forward to a brighter day. Plant the seeds now for harvest later. Thank you, always, to the people of Michigan for always being so welcoming.”
