Michigan’s 10 Most Influential People in Marijuana
by STAFF from July 19, 2017:
Michigan has nearly 10 MILLION residents- how can we narrow down the list of people who influence the direction of marijuana law creation and information transfer?
It wasn’t easy. This list is presented alphabetically, not in order of importance.
1. MATTHEW ABEL
Attorney Abel is a heavy hitter in the state. Not only is he the co-founder and partner at the Detroit firm of Cannabis Counsel, PLC, he is a Lifetime Member of the national NORML Legal Committee and a member of the Marijuana Law Section of the State Bar Association. Abel is one of only two people in the state to be on both Boards of Directors of Michigan’s NORML Chapter and the MILEGALIZE organization. Abel is the Executive Director for the MINORML group, and MILEGALIZE is in a petition signature drive to legalize marijuana in Michigan as part of the CRMLA campaign. Attorney Abel is the cannabis community personality most frequently quoted by national news sources regarding actions here in Michigan. His Detroit law office has been the rallying point for organizational meetings for years, and the Repeal Today campaign in 2012 was launched from those rooms. Along with his ever-present partner Thomas Lavigne (the 11th player on our list of 10) this Detroit firm has made their presence known across the state.
