Michigan’s 10 Most Influential People in Marijuana
This list is presented alphabetically, not in order of importance.
10. Rick Thompson
Along with the #1 name in this list, Matthew Abel, Thompson is the only other person to currently sit on both the Boards of Michigan’s NORML chapter and the MILEGALIZE organization. Thompson’s media reach has touched almost all forms during his career. In 2009 Thompson co-founded the award-winning Michigan Medical Marijuana Magazine, which he remained Editor of until the magazine ended production in December of 2011. He was a principal in the Big Daddy’s organization, which had 5 dispensaries across Michigan at its height of operations. He co-founded and launched an Internet news service The Compassion Chronicles, for which he was awarded the Crystal Trichome Award for Journalist of the Year. That portal has evolved into The Social Revolution.org. Thompson’s radio career began on the real radio as part of a broadcast team which syndicated The Medical Marijuana Radio Show and, later, The Political Twist-Up Show across WDTW (Detroit), WTKG (Grand Rapids) and WFNT (Flint). Thompson joined the cast of The Planet Green Trees Radio Show and enjoyed five years of success as News Director with that podcast. Thompson was a principal in the Repal Today organization, and his advocacy in Michigan has won him a national award as Citizen Activist of the Year from an industry media source. As the 2015 founder of the Michigan Cannabis Business Development Group (MICBD) Thompson hosts the largest and most well-received conferences for small business entrepreneurs in the state, including two successful conferences in 2017. Thompson is frequently quoted by Michigan’s traditional media outlets and occasionally writes for High Times Magazine.
