Editor’s Note: Rick Thompson is on the Board of Directors of the Michigan chapter of NORML, and is on the Board of the MILegalize organization, which are both mentioned in this article. ~RT
Michigan’s NORML chapter is a diverse and far-flung group representing all corners of the state with sub-chapters. One of those is the newly-emerging Macomb County group, being led by Jessica Finch.
She writes:
Our first chapter meeting for this exciting and sure to be busy year is January 24th at 6:30 pm at the Clinton Macomb South Branch Library. 35891 S Gratiot Ave, Clinton Twp.
Joe White is going to show us “The House I Live In” by Eugene Jarecki, followed by discussion. We would like for the cannabis community to view this film with us!
In March, before the petition drive kicks off we plan to host an event for the community to view the film and have discussion around it. We plan to invite police, PTA’s, legislators, community leaders and anyone interested to this community event. In order to pull that off we need as many activists as possible to view the film so you can help “sell” the event to others. Please come join us on the 24th!
Joe White is the Michigan NORML Diversity Director. He’s shown the film and led discussions regarding the issue of Carceral Cities at many meetings throughout Michigan. The petition drive Ms. Finch mentions is the MILegalize petition drive to bring the adult use of cannabis to Michigan. MILegalize plans to launch a petition drive in April or May of 2017 and are currently in discussions with Marijuana Policy Project regarding language for that petition.
Pre-registration is not necessary for the Macomb NORML meeting.
