PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WHAT: MILegalize Fundraiser
WHERE: Webster’s Prime, located in the Radisson Plaza Hotel, Kalamazoo
WHEN: January 27, 6pm – 10pm
KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN– A black tie social affair in support of marijuana legalization in Michigan is so popular the event is nearly sold out.
“Michigan is on the brink of a new and exciting multimillion dollar industry. 2017 will prove to be one of the most important years in Michigan’s cannabis law reform history,” said Josey Scoggin of Kalamazoo.
Scoggin has organized this fundraiser at the swanky Radisson Hotel in Kalamazoo. She is both the founder of the criminal justice reform organization Sons and Daughters United and a Board member of the MILegalize organization.
The event is titled, “The Southwest Michigan Black Tie Social” and will take place inside the Webster’s Prime restaurant. With a ticket price of $500 per plate, or $5,000 per VIP table, the event is breaking stereotypes about marijuana law reform and the people who support it. A few seats are still available.
“Our support base is built with businessmen and civic leaders standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the ill and the disadvantaged,” Scoggin said. “MILegalize has been so successful that Marijuana Policy Project has come to Michigan to join us as we put adult use of cannabis on the 2018 ballot.”
The MILegalize Kalamazoo fundraiser is the latest in a series of high-profile events designed to provide operating capital to go toward the petition drive. In 2016 MILegalize submitted 354,000 signatures on petitions- more than 100,000 signatures more than were required to secure a place on the 2016 ballot proposal. Governmental interference and a never-before used passage in law prevented the petitions from being processed by Michigan elections officials; MIlegalize has appealed to the United States Supreme Court for a resolution in the matter.
The organization, and Scoggin, are not waiting for SCOTUS to act. “We control our destiny,” Scoggin said. “There is room in our organization for everyone.”
